A Message from the Leader of Learning PDHPE

Lachlan Tonks

Welcome back to Term 2 at CMCC! It's always a pleasure to see our students return, refreshed and ready to hit the ground running with all things PDHPE related. This term promises to be filled with exciting activities and learning opportunities, and I'm thrilled to share some highlights with you.

Blazing Belles

Each Tuesday in Break 1, our Blazing Belles group continues to grow! This initiative encourages female students to get active in a fun and supportive environment. From volleyball to Just Dance, basketball to free play — it’s all about what the students feel like on the day. Thanks to the PDHPE faculty for offering such a dynamic and inclusive space for physical activity.

Water polo

Our Year 10 Physical Activity and Sport Studies (PASS) students dived into the world of water polo! With a focus on teamwork, tactical thinking, and aquatic fitness, this unit has made a real splash. Students are enjoyed the challenge and developing key skills in a new and exciting environment.

Ga Ga Ball

Even with wet weather limiting outdoor access, the PDHPE faculty has remained flexible and creative. From all sporting contexts and dance in the hall, to modified lessons in classrooms like Ga Ga ball, we’ve made every minute count. Students have continued to develop skills, stay active, and have fun, no matter the setting.

Athletics

For our Year 7-9 PDHPE classes, athletics is the practical unit of focus this term. We're emphasising key teaching points, providing feedback to both teachers and students, and honing skill execution in various athletic events in preparation for the College carnival later this term. A special mention goes out to our Year 7 cohort for embracing the 'Silent Protocol' strategy, which has proven to be a resounding success in enhancing performance and feedback mechanisms.

All junior PDHPE classes put their best foot forward in the two-week build up to the school’s Cross Country Carnival. The participation was impressive across the board. Today, selected students from the carnival represented our school at the next level — be sure to check out next week’s sports article for the full wrap-up of their results!

Uniform Changes

As we transition into the winter uniform next weel, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the mothers and mother-like figures in our CMCC and wider community a very happy Mother's Day. Your support and dedication are truly appreciated. Whilst this holds a change in uniform, please remember that while hats are no longer mandatory during practical lessons, sun safety remains paramount. I encourage all students to stay sun-safe and engaged in their activities throughout the term.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss how you can further support your child's learning in PDHPE via your child’s classroom teacher, or at lachlan.tonks@mn.catholic.edu.au.

Wishing everyone a productive and enjoyable Term 2 ahead!

Warm regards,

Lachlan Tonks
